Join our 2025 AAPI Futures Impact Producer Fellows Lan Dinh and Yennie Lee for their shareback “Documentary as Tool for Grassroots Organizing: Impact Campaigns for Immigration & Housing Justice Movements.“
In this webinar, moderated by Steering Committee Member Gerry Leonard, Lan and Yennie discuss how their impact campaigns for TAKING ROOT and SLUMLORD MILLIONAIRE contributed to active immigration and housing justice organizing against the backdrops of federal defunding of public media, increased militarization and ICE raids in Philadelphia, and the results of a historic mayoral election in New York City.
Both Lan and Yennie discussed not only the nuts and bolts of their respective campaigns, but the amount of creativity it takes to make it successful. TAKING ROOT’s campaign focused a lot on political education, language justice, and a deep focus on different audiences. For SLUMLORD MILLIONAIRE, many of their screenings were hosted with non-profits and the team made a large push to mobilize voters. To learn more, make sure to watch the session above!
This is the first of two sharebacks from our cohort. Tune in to our next shareback on March 9 with Reina Bonta and Carlo Velayo for a conversation on the MAYBE IT’S JUST THE RAIN and NURSE UNSEEN impact campaigns. RSVP here.
